Documentary Wedding Photojournalism

About the Photographer

I have been documenting weddings in Michiana and around the United States since 2002. Since then I have expanded to include portraits, sporting events and commercial photography.  Based in South Bend, I'm fortunate to frequently work with Brides and Grooms at the University of Notre Dame and St. Mary's College as well as all of the other beautiful wedding location in our area.

Over the last 14 years I've photographed over 100 weddings in 10 States and countless portraits, college and high-school sporting events, and freelance commercial website and catalog photography. While my primary business will always be documenting weddings, I'm always excited by every opportunity to push the boundaries of my experience and style.

I attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to study theater in 1995 – focusing on technical design and lighting design. During my junior year, I switched my major to Fine Art Photography and never looked back. My experience in the Theatre has influenced my photography - I've got an eye for dramatic shots!

During College I interned with Jill Greenberg in New York and gained valuable production & real world experience at a working commercial studio. Exposure to her creative eye and flair for creating eye-popping imagery both in the camera and with digital tools informed my own workflows.

Real World

After school, I found a position at Fan, Action. They were a Notre Dame Merchandiser and publisher of Blue & Gold Illustrated. I created images for their online and print catalogs as well as documenting Notre Dame sports for the newspaper. There's nothing like the roar of the crowd at a Notre Dame football or Basketball game!

recent work

Here are some of my latest and greatest shots.

Magic Hour wedding portraits on the beach - photo opportunities don't get much better than that. Mela and Pooya were so much fund to work with, and Nature did us a solid assist with just the right amount of cloud cover to create some beautiful colors in the background. Click here for Mela & Pooya's wedding day gallery.

Jamie & Todd had planned to have their wedding on the beach at Warren Dunes, but switched venues at the last minute for a Llama Farm in Sawyer, MI. I've got to say that it was a fantastic decision!

Small weddings can be so much fun! This was my first time visiting Render Kitchen in South Bend, and after Lindsay & Rich's wedding ceremony I can promise you it won't be my last!
